So a couple of weeks ago my husband and I decided to go on our belated honeymoon. I picked our destination a mere 4 years ago when we were originally planning our wedding. The hotel stayed firmly at the forefront of my mind and was my go-to dream whenever I needed an escape from reality. So after being married for 4 years come September 2016 we were finally in a position to check this amazing place out for ourselves.
So where is this magical destination I hear you ask? Well it’s on the Rivera Maya on Mexico’s Caribbean coastline and it’s called El Dorado Royale Casitas (link below). Just 25 mins drive away from Cancun’s busy airport lies this slice of heaven nestled on its own beach that runs about 1.5 miles along the Caribbean shoreline. This resort is adults only and has 2 sections; the Royale and the Casita. Both beautiful. We stayed in the Casita section because we were celebrating our 4 year anniversary and since having yet to have a honeymoon we decided to treat ourselves. We booked our holiday via Blue Bay Travel who matched Thomson’s price but also threw in a lot more extras like a standard Casita upgraded to a swim up, anniversary package, spa credit and much more.

Let’s just say that our Casita was the best accommodation we have ever stayed in. It was huge! Casista’s, as standard come with a king sized bed, roofless outdoor shower, jacuzzi bath tub, mini bar, room scent, pillow menu, DVD library, turn down service, concierge service, beach butler service, 24hr room service (free) and a huge 708 sq.ft Let’s just think about that. All that is standard!!
There are 5 different levels of Casita suites from standard to Infinity Pool Swim up’s and then you have 3 different levels of Casita Presidential Suites’s, so there is a lot of choice.
Casita guests also have the privilege of being able to make reservations at any of the onsite restaurants. Also the Casita section in our experience was way more relaxed and chilled. We went down to the main pool in the Royale section during our stay and it was quite busy and noisy. We quickly escaped back to the tranquility of the Casistas. The Casita sections start from section 25 all the way through to section 32 and range from 14 to 16 Casistas in each section. Each section has its own pool, bar, section of beach and personal concierge.

Food Glorious Food
The best bit in my opinion. The food here is ‘Gourmet inclusive’. And it’s bloody delicious.

There is really too much to say about the food, there was a vast amount of it and it was truly scrumptious. I’m just going to list my favorite places for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and then make you all extremely jealous by posting some #foodporn pictures!
There are 9 restaurants ranging from Mexican, American, Italian and Chinese/Japenese.
- Cocotal: for breakfast there is a huge buffet with also an A La Carte option. The breakfast buffet was amazing and had so much choice it was crazy. Also there was an egg station so the chef could whip you up your desired choice of eggs and fillings.
- Santa Fe was another great choice for breakfast. A bonus for us was that it was right by our Casita so we didn’t have to walk that far! Highly recommend the fruit platter with cottage cheese for starters and also the Eggs Benedict for your main course (See pics) all washed down with a Mimosa, you really can’t go wrong.
- JoJo’s: To start, Caesar chicken Salad. For main: Burger menu, Texas BBQ Burger done medium rare (you are very welcome).
- La Cabana Pizzeria: To start, Nachos with everything. For main, Jerk Chicken Pizza with Roquefort. (You are also very welcome!)
- Cocotal, all good, especially the Profiterole dessert.
- Kampai, Loved the Sake Lamb. It was amazing. Great spring rolls too.
- D’Italia, The gnocchi was delicious, beef tenderloin also very good.
Room service was amazing, always hot and came within 40 mins. Our faves were the noodles, guacamole and chips, chicken wings with blue cheese sauce was so good also the chocolate brownie was a nice way to finish off.
So obviously working in Entertainment we had to sample the live entertainment on offer every evening. I think we saw all the shows and the stand out ones for us were the Circus Show, The MJ Show, The fire show and The Mariachi Band. Before the show starts at 10pm the house band would be performing live for a couple of hours while everyone finished up their meals and made their way over to Guacamayas Bar. This was great, it got everyone in the mood and really set the evening up. All the shows mentioned above were better than I thought they would be. Although for us what we really missed in the MJ Show was a live singer. In fact, in all the shows they didn’t have a singer singing lead, it was all mimed. But overall, the shows exceeded our expectations. The circus show was amazing and all the artists who took part were extremely talented. Slight issues with the sound, as one of the speakers above the stage seemed to spend the majority of the show being off and then on, was highly annoying and did ruin and distract us unfortunately.
The animation team were called the K Team and they organised and hosted most of the daytime activities which took part at the main pool in the Royale section. We only managed to watch one activity which was Ninja Warrior and it was great fun. The 2 hosts did a great job of entertaining the whole pool and getting everyone involved. We also took part in the Greenhouse tour which was hosted by Sergio. The hotel has an onsite greenhouse which is around 75,000 sq ft in size. The facility provides produce not only for El Dorado Royale, but also for Karisma Hotels: El Dorado Spa Resorts, Generations Resorts and Azul Hotels throughout the region.
The whole resort is stunning, the care that has gone into the grounds is fantastic. There are gardeners, cleaners, porters, maintenance and numerous other departments who take so much care in what they do. We never saw any rubbish or litter about, it is extremely clean and beautiful. The spa is fantastic and the gyms are well equipped. We had a couple’s massage at the spa and it was a little pricey. If we hadn’t had the spa credit I don’t think we would have bothered. The massage was lovely and it took place by the beach but I wouldn’t have paid full price for it. The shuttle service was a little hit and miss; they don’t really stick to the times displayed but I’m quite used to waiting for buses at home so it wasn’t a big deal. The view there is a lot more attractive than dreary Liverpool! Our maid throughout our stay was fantastic and left us towel animals every day! If you want to book any excursions or day trips I recommend you visit Lomas travel. They did us a deal because we booked 2 excursions with them. Also they were cheaper than Thomson. I highly recommend you go and see Juno at Cirque du Soleil.
The beach was stunning; white sands and clear blue water, beach cabanas and a beach butler, what more could you ask for? Yes, there are concrete sandbags in the sea, but it wasn’t a big deal for us. I would advise on water shoes. Our beach in front of section 30 was perfect but other sections on the beach are a little rocky and slippy trying to get in the sea. There are lots of fish to see so don’t forget your snorkel! Also jet skis and parasailing is also onsite right by JoJo’s restaurant. We loved the cabanas; shaded and cool with pillows if you wanted to sleep or sit up and read your book. Heaven.
So that about sums up our amazing honeymoon and anniversary holiday. We had an amazing time and just want to pass our thanks onto the staff who made our holiday. They were all so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were having a great holiday. It was pure luxury and we probably won’t ever have a holiday so luxurious again but we are so thankful we got the chance to experience El Dorado Royale Casitas!
